As mothers in this social media world, we have this expectation of how and what our lives are supposed to look like, the same goes with breastfeeding. We don’t often talk about the road bumps, detours, or even when things change suddenly. As we normalize breastfeeding, the hope is that we empower more women to reach out and ask for help when things don’t go according to plan. There are so many wonderful resources and individuals who are trained to help when things don’t work. I know I’ve had to seek help with first born and I am so thankful for the help. Todays featured mom is a mom of 3 lovely kids and is now breastfeeding twins, here is what she has to say:

  • World Breastfeeding Week 2019 Day 2

    By Natalie Edmundson Photography |

    DSC_0136

Welcome back as we celebrate another day of World Breastfeeding Week 2019! As we look at 2018 it marked a huge victory towards normalizing breastfeeding, all 50 states made it legal to breastfeed in public. Although it is now legal, it does not stop those who want to publicly shame mothers who should be afforded the opportunity to breastfeed without having to confine themselves to bathroom stalls or other designated areas. In locations such as Georgia, where I currently reside, the weather can reach unreasonable temperatures and the humidity out of control. High temperature and high humidity make it increasingly uncomfortable for any mom trying to nurse another warm bodied human being and then add an article of clothing to top it off. Shaming has got to stop in our community, and we need to support and uplift other mothers who are trying to breastfeed their babies. If you don’t think so, read what this lovely mom has to say about her ordeal after being shamed while breastfeeding this year in 2019!

This week I have asked a few moms who I’ve had the opportunity to meet to share in their own words, their journey about motherhood and/or breastfeeding. These blogs are solely to encourage and uplift others who may be struggling or need words of encouragement. Not every mother can breastfeed and that is ok! No matter how a baby receives its nourishment, “fed is best”! Make sure to check back in each day for a new blog post.

World Breastfeeding Week Day 5 Photography by Natalie Edmundson

One of the most empowering things about World Breastfeeding Week is the amount of support that has grown over the years! My job as a photographer has allowed me to have open discussions with lactations consultants, midwives, doulas, medical professionals, as well as the women I have photographed on their journey through motherhood. The last and final post to wrap up World Breastfeeding Week for my page is this darling mom and her sweet baby. She was so excited to volunteer for this project! The weather could have not been more perfect. The gorgeous sunsets that Georgia has is amazing and…

World Breastfeeding Week Day 4 Photography by Natalie Edmundson

Welcome back for day 4 of World Breastfeeding Week! Today I am releasing two posts to finish out our week. This first post was photographed up at the NICU for two very special boys who came a bit earlier than anticipated. Mom sent me a heartfelt message of her experiences with breastfeeding. “When we first learned that we were pregnant with twins after 3 years of many negative pregnancy tests, I wanted to do all that I could to have a healthy pregnancy. Similarly, I planned to breastfeed my beautiful baby boys due to all the reported benefits of breast milk.…

World Breastfeeding Week Day 3 Photography by Natalie Edmundson

Happy Thursday! Continuing our celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, I had the pleasure of doing a lifestyle nursing session with this sweet mother and her baby girl. Below she has shared her experiences with breastfeeding. I also added a few highlights from their intimate nursing session! “I nursed my first baby who had a great latch from the beginning. I didn’t have to worry too much about covering her because she knew what to do. However, the North Carolina heat makes it dangerous to nurse outside covered so I would go to stores for A/C. Unfortunately, I got a lot of…

    Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week 2018

August has become one of my favorite months, not because the kids return to school, but that women across the world get to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. This fantastic celebration is also to raise awareness about the importance and education of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding offers both baby and mom so many benefits! There are plenty of resources out there to explain them, but that is now what I am focusing on this week. To celebrate this week, I reached out to my local community of mothers who are breastfeeding to share their experiences in hopes that other women will feel empowered and…

World Breastfeeding Week Day 1 Photography by Natalie Edmundson

Today we kick off the first day of World Breast Feeding Week 2018! This lovely mom and her sweet daughter graciously volunteered to be photographed for this week’s tribute to breastfeeding women. Mom delivered at a local hospital here and had the opportunity to be visited by the local lactation nurses. Her baby girl was a champ and took to nursing easily. It has been smooth sailing since leaving the hospital. One of the things she loves about nursing her daughter is the bonding time as well as the calming affect her body feels. I love how darling their nursing…
